The treatment, step by step

The treatment is painless and is carried out in the outpatient department under local anaesthetic.

The treatment includes all of the following steps:

1) Thorough examination
The first step is always to talk to the dentist about your problems and requirements. The dentist will then conduct a thorough dental examination, involving an analysis of the clinical situation, detailed checks and complementary radiological tests to ascertain the condition of the bone tissue and determine the best position for the dental implant. In addition, an impression is made of the patient's mandible and existing teeth.

2) Insertion of the implant
The dental implant can be inserted in a number of different ways, depending on the clinical situation. In the single-phase procedure, the implant is put in place and then immediately fixed by a temporary abutment, whereas in the biphasic procedure, the implant is inserted and then covered by the gum before the insertion of the abutment. In either case, a temporary tooth or denture is put in place while the gum heals over (three months for the mandible and six months for the maxilla).

3) Positioning the abutment
In the single-phase procedure, the temporary abutment is replaced by the permanent abutment once the dental implant has become bound to the bone tissue. In the biphasic procedure, the second stage involves making a small incision in the gum and placing the abutment in position.

4) Positioning the crown and checking
The new teeth are fixed to the implants using a simple procedure. In general, the procedure is followed by one or two return visits to check functionality and appearance, and to ensure that the patient is full satisfied with their new teeth.

5) Creating the tooth
Once the abutment has been put in place, a new impression is taken. This is then compared to the original impression taking during the initial examination. The dental technician makes the crown, bridge or denture on the basis of the second impression. Great care is taken over the colour and shape of the new teeth to ensure that they are as similar as possible to the existing teeth.
